How to:

Note:  All seams are 1/2 inch. To request the pattern, please leave a comment and I will be happy to send you a pdf of full size patterns.

  1. Choose four squares each from the Sterling Silver Cake Squares selection for the front and back of your pillow. Mix shades of grey as well as textures.

  2. With right sides together, stitch two sets of two squares together, they stitch the two sets together to form a larger square. Repeat to assemble the back of the pillow.

  3. With right sides together, stitch the pillow front and back together, leaving a 8 inch opening along the bottom edge.

  4. Insert the Soft Touch® Pillow Insert and hand stitch the opening closed.

  5. Large Petals: Choose two squares for each of five petals, one lighter grey and one darker grey. Once again mix textures. With right sides together, cover the lighter squares with Structure Fusible Interfacing, following the manufacturer’s directions.

  6. Using the pattern, trace the outline of the larger petal directly onto the interfacing.

  7. Stitch along the traced line. Trim 1/4 inch from the stitched line and turn right side out. Continue until you have created five large petals and four small petals. Note: I choose to feature the darker petals as the large petals and the reverse for the smaller petals.

  8. Using a needle and thread, stitch the five large petals together. Gather and tie off your thread.

  9. Once again using a needle and thread, stitch the four small petals together. Gather the petals and then place the smaller petals on top of the large and stitch the two layers together, sewing through the center of the petals.

  10. Following the manufacturer’s directions, cover a large half ball button with the cuddle fabric of your choice.

  11. Center the flower on top of the pillow form and using a large needle and doubled thread insert needle into the center back of the pillow and come up through the center front of the pillow and shank of the button.

  12. Insert the needle and thread back down and through a button added to the center back of the pillow. Repeat three or four times, stitching through the fabric, pillow form and buttons. Pull threads taught and insert needle back through one of the holes in the button. Wrap thread around the back of the button and tie off.
