Making giant flowers to use as chair back accents, to hang in trees, place on your front door or used as a table centerpiece is sew simple and a great idea to dress up your table or your home for Spring. I used oly-fun™ as it is cost effective and comes in so many delightfully Spring-like colors. Full size patterns and step by step written instructions as well as diagrams will help you achieve success from your first flower to your tenth. I would love to see these flowers utilized as wedding decor. They would look great as an alternative to the traditional pew bow, but honestly the options are limitless as changing the size is simply a matter of placing the pattern on your copy machine and creating whatever size you can imagine. Have fun!

Floral wire & Wire cutters
Basic sewing, cutting and pressing tools
A. Using the patterns* and measurements provided cut out the flower petals, center ruffle and stamen strips.
B. Top stitch using white thread around each petal
C. Using a needle and thread with a knot on one end, stitch the five largest petals together using a large gathering stitch. Draw up the thread and distribute the gathers. Stitch back into the flower center to secure the gathers and trim away any excess thread.
D. Repeat stitching and gathering together the four smaller petals.
E. Using a needle and thread with a knot on one end, stitch along one edge of the center ruffle using a large gathering stitch.
F. Draw up the thread and distribute the gathers. Stitch back into the ruffle to secure the gathers and trim away any excess thread. Using the glue gun, add a drop of glue to the open edge of the center ruffle.
G. Wrap one of the 1/2″ strips around itself to form 8″ wide loops, continue until all three strips have been used. Wrap a piece of wire around the center of the loops and twist the ends together, gathering the loops together tightly at the center point. Trim away excess wire and flatten the wire ends against the back of the flower.
H. Stack the flower layers on top of each other, adding glue and pressing until the glue sets between each of the layers.
Depending on the intended use of the flowers you may want to add a tie or hanging loop. Finish your flower with a 3″ circle of matching oly-fun™ to cover the center back of the flower.
